Getting to Know ArcGIS Online

 Getting to Know ArcGIS Online

Description of training

Making online maps using GIS is now available to anyone for free, no GIS experience required! With ArcGIS Online, no expensive desktop software or advanced technical knowledge is required to make and share great looking online maps.

For GIS novices, ArcGIS Online provides an easy and powerful way to create and share interactive maps. For users of ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online provides a way to share maps previously only possible through advanced server software (such as ArcGIS Server).

This workshop will provide hands-on practice using ArcGIS Online to create custom online maps and share them with others. Differences between the types of ArcGIS Online accounts will be discussed at the workshop (public, subscription). All exercises will be conducted with the free (public) account, but will be directly relevant to users who have subscription accounts.

General topics:

basic online mapping, adding new data to online maps, sharing online maps with others

Participants will learn to:

learn to make basic maps with ArcGIS Online (AGO), add online data layers to an AGO map, create new layers in AGO, import .shp and .csv files to an AGO map, share AGO maps with others, create basic web apps using AGO templates, differentiate between public and subscription accounts for AGO
