 Military Family Camp Weekend
August 14-16, 2015

   Super Family Camp Weekend!

     Engineering with a Purpose…Family Style!

August 14-16, 2015

Military Families joined us in August for a weekend of adventure at beautiful Lake Winnipesauke. Families participated in educational 4-H activities including Healthy Living based activities, and a STEM learning adventure. Naturally, it just wouldn’t be camp without swimming, canoeing, nature hikes, and a campfire- including campfire songs and s'mores!

The exciting 4-H STEM project this year was Rockets to the Rescue. Family members teamed together to engineer and create a rocket to safely carry supplies to a fictional island that was devastated by a natural disaster! After initial design and observations, families worked together to make corrections and get closer to the target. Families had a fun time creating and decorating their rockets, launching them, and exploring science!

Families also participated in nutrition and wellness activities while at camp! The nutrition activities explored sugar contents in common beverages, water needs of the body, the food groups, and how to make your own healthy sports drinks! Families learned about fitness in a circuit training activity and about mindfulness through a presentation, yoga, and a nature hike.  Click HERE to see the Military Family Camp Scrapbook Photos!

Science at Sea
Saturday, June 20th, 2015

The University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension Military Youth and Family Program and New Hampshire Sea Grant were monitoring the weather all week and the forecast for Saturday June 20th was ominous for our Science at Sea trip.  What looked like thunder and lightning at the beginning of the week turned out to be one of the best days of the summer.  “We go out rain or shine,” said UNH Sea Grant Extension Program Associate Dari Ward, “but not with thunder and lightning.”  Click HERE to read more.
