Spatial Institute 101 will provide an introduction to geospatial tools such as GPS, GIS and remote sensing. The institute will also introduce participants to local data collection projects and local data sets. Teachers will be provided with ready-made lessons that promote spatial literacy and use GIS technology in the classroom. Content and activities will be focused towards elementary and middle-school classrooms, although adaptations for older studens will also be discussed.  All activities will utilize ArcGIS Online in a web browser, which can be used on both PC's and Macs.

Day 1: introduction to GPS & GIS, mapping with ArcGIS Online MapViewer, fun GPS field activities
Day 2: exporing Esri's Map Gallery, ArcGIS Explorer Online (cool presentation tool), setting up an ArcGIS Online organizational account for your school
Day 3: conduct a GPS treasure hunt and map it, bringing other data into ArcGIS Online, thematic mapping, classroom integration

All participants will receive a $100 stipend
All participants will receive a GPS unit to keep

Non-credit: Free
Credit: $220 (1 credit undergrad or grad through Keene State)
